About GPT Image 1 API
GPT Image 1 is OpenAI's production image generation model available via API, accepting text and image inputs to produce images via text-to-image generation and inpainting/editing endpoints. It supports three resolutions (square, landscape, portrait), three quality tiers (low/medium/high), and output formats including PNG, JPEG, and WebP with optional transparency. It is the model underlying ChatGPT's image generation. Note: GPT Image 1 is scheduled for deprecation on October 23, 2026; the current flagship is GPT Image 2.
